The Autumn-tinted Mt. Hiba Hiking

The autumn colors are forecasted to be beautiful this year due to less damage on leaves by storms. The peak of the autumn leaves in Mt. Hiba, located in the northeastern most part of Hiroshima Prefecture, is predicted at late October as usual.

Mt. Hiba is one of nine peaks of Hibayama Mountain Range. These mountains and the surrounding areas are called “Kenmin no Mori” (Citizens' Forest). We will drive up to the Kenmin no Mori Park Center which is 800 meters above sea level.

From the center we will walk on a mild 2-hour course to the 1,264-meter Hibayama which is surrounded by a beautiful virgin forest of beech trees. Hibayama is also known as Goryo (Imperial mausoleum). It is said a goddess, described in Kojiki (Japanese Ancient Chronicle), was buried there.

The weather in the mountain is changeable. The temperature becomes freezing cold sometimes. Rain gear and warm clothes are a must. If it rains, this outing will be canceled.

Meeting Place & time: In front of the Kenmin no Mori Park Center, 10:30 a.m.
*Go by car. Take the Chugoku Expressway. We will take a short break at Nanatsukahara service area at around 9:20 before getting off at Shobara exit. You will be able to get together with us there. Then take Rte.183 to Saijo Town for about 25 kilometers, and follow the signboard that reads "県民の森" which means Hiroshima Citizen's Forest. It will take about 1.5 hours from central Hiroshima to Shobara, and an hour from Shobara to Kenmin no Mori Park Center. Please check it on the map.
*Your toll fee will be 1,000 yen (one way), if the Electronic Toll Collection System has been installed in your vehicle.

Participation fee: Free of charge.
Please remember that the organizer of this hike will not insure the participants of the outing against accidental injuries.

紅葉の比婆山ハイキング

今年の紅葉は美しいとの予報が出ています。例年に比べ台風が少なかったこともあり、葉への影響が少ないと考えられるのだそうです。また、比婆山の紅葉の見ごろは例年通りの10月下旬と予測されています。

比婆山（御陵とも呼ばれます）のある比婆山連峰は広島県の最北東部に位置し、９つの峰が連なり国定公園にもなっています。県民の森公園センターがある登山口はすでに海抜８００ｍあります。

公園センターから出雲峠を通るコースを歩きます。まず烏帽子山（1,225m）へ登り、御陵のある比婆山まで行きます。公園センターから約2時間半です。ぶな林の中にある御陵は古事記にでてくる伊邪那美命（いざなみのみこと）が祀られていると言われているところです。

この時期の比婆山の天気は変わりやすく、また時には震えるほど冷え込むことがあります。雨具とセーターなどの防寒着は必須です。雨天の場合、行事は中止します。

＊集合場所と時間：県民の森公園センター前 １０時３０分
マイカーで行きます。中国自動車道の七塚サービスエリアでトイレ休憩（９時２０分ごろ）の予定です。庄原インターで下りて、国道１８３号線を西城町方向に約２５ｋｍ走ると左手に県民の森の案内標識があります。広島中心部から庄原まで約１時間半、庄原から県民の森公園センターまでおおよそ１時間です。
一般道でも約２時間で庄原まで行けます。国道５４号線を三次まで行き、高架の中国道を通り過ぎたところにある船所交差点を右折し、三次IC方向に入ります。途中で右折して、備北広域農道に入り、国道１８４号線、馬洗川を横切ってすぐ左折して、県道４３１号線に入り、和知で国道１８３号線に合流します。１０ｋｍ走れば庄原です。地図でご確認下さい。
＊参加費用：　不要。傷害保険はかけていませんので、ご了解のうえご参加下さい。
＊装備： ハイキングに適した服装、リュックサック、ハイキングシューズ、雨具、セーターなど防寒衣、手袋、水筒、弁当
