2009/12/03 Applications for the December outing, Sokoyama hike and Year-end party, have exceeded the limit of 15 people. We cannot accept any more people who wish to join the afternoon party at the okonomiyaki restaurant due to the limited seats. However for those who want to join the morning hike, we will welcome. お知らせ １２月行事の宗箇山ハイクと忘年会の申込者が定員の１５人を超えました。午後からの忘年会はお好み焼き屋で催しますが、席に限りがありますので、残念ですがもうこれ以上受付はできません。しかし、午前中のハイキングに参加を希望される方については、特に人数の制限がありませんので、どうぞご参加下さい。 2009/11/11 Mt. Soko Hiking Soko Ueda was a master of the tea ceremony as well as a senior retainer for the Asano Clan who entered Hiroshima Castle  in 1619 and ruled this area until the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912). He made tea rooms in the castle, Shukkeien garden (the old site of the Asano Clan’s second house) and his residence. He planted a big red pine tree on a mountaintop, a distance of five kilometers from the castle, to be appreciated as a background for the tea rooms. The mountain came to be called Sokoyama and the pine tree was named Sokomatsu. The fourth generation pine tree was planted in 1998. Mitaki Temple sits at the foot of Mt. Soko. The two-storied vermilion pagoda called “Tahoto”, an important Hiroshima Prefectural cultural asset, stands near the entry point of the approach to the temple. The temple and its surrounding area are one of the best spots for cherry blossom and autumn colors viewing. We will start out from JR Mitaki Station on the Kabe Line, and walk up on the paved road and enter the approach to Mitaki temple. From the temple we will take the A course (1900 meters) to go up Mt. Soko. The view of Hiroshima’s delta and bay is beautiful. We will walk down on the B course (1100 meters) near Tahoto, and return to the starting point, Mitaki Station. Then we will take an 11-minute train ride to Hiroshima Station and walk several minutes to our final destination, an Okonomiyaki restaurant, for a year-end party. Tel: 082-262-8483 (Nihongo only) 宗箇山ハイク 江戸時代のはじめ広島浅野藩の家老、上田重安(1563～1650)は宗箇と号した茶人でもありました。宗箇は広島城、縮景園（藩主浅野長晟別邸跡）や自分の屋敷内に茶屋を造り、その借景として広島城の北西５kmの山の山頂に大きな１本の赤松を植えました。その山は後に宗箇山、松は宗箇松と呼ばれるようになりました。現在の宗箇松は平成１０年に植樹された四代目に当たります。宗箇の茶風は、上田宗箇流茶の湯として、１６代にわたって今でも受け継がれています。宗箇山の麓の三滝寺一帯は春には桜、秋には紅葉の名所となっており、境内入り口には県の重要文化財の朱色の多宝塔があります。 JR三滝駅から歩き始め、三滝寺の境内を通って登るAコース（１９００ｍ）で宗箇山に登ります。眼下に広島市街や広島湾のすばらしい景色が望めます。下りは展望岩を通るBコース（１１００ｍ）で下山します。三滝駅から電車で広島駅に戻り、近くでお好み焼きを食べながら忘年会の予定です。 雨天の場合、ハイキングは中止しますが、13時から予定通り忘年会をお好み焼き屋で催しますので、どうぞご集合下さい。詳しくは下記備考欄をご覧下さい。 ＊日時： 平成２１年１２月６日（日）

広島駅から東へ市内電車線沿いに２００ｍ歩くと猿猴橋電停があります。その先を左に曲がると左手に「京ちゃん」があります。 2009/10/08  The Autumn-tinted Mt. Hiba Hiking
The autumn colors are forecasted to be beautiful this year due to less damage on leaves by storms. The peak of the autumn leaves in Mt. Hiba, located in the northeastern most part of Hiroshima Prefecture, is predicted at late October as usual. Mt. Hiba is one of nine peaks of Hibayama Mountain Range. These mountains and the surrounding areas are called “Kenmin no Mori” (Citizens' Forest). We will drive up to the Kenmin no Mori Park Center which is 800 meters above sea level. From the center we will walk on a mild 2-hour course to the 1,264-meter Hibayama which is surrounded by a beautiful virgin forest of beech trees. Hibayama is also known as Goryo (Imperial mausoleum). It is said a goddess, described in Kojiki (Japanese Ancient Chronicle), was buried there. The weather in the mountain is changeable. The temperature becomes freezing cold sometimes. Rain gear and warm clothes are a must. If it rains, this outing will be canceled. Date: Sunday, November 1st, 2009

*Go by car. Take the Chugoku Expressway. We will take a short break at Nanatsukahara service area at around 9:20 before getting off at Shobara exit. You will be able to get together with us there. Then take Rte.183 to Saijo Town for about 25 kilometers, and follow the signboard that reads "県民の森" which means Hiroshima Citizen's Forest. It will take about 1.5 hours from central Hiroshima to Shobara, and an hour from Shobara to Kenmin no Mori Park Center. Please check it on the map.
*Your toll fee will be 1,000 yen (one way), if the Electronic Toll Collection System has been installed in your vehicle.
Participation fee: Free of charge.

Hiba (14:00)---Kenmin no Mori Park Center (15:30) 紅葉の比婆山ハイキング 今年の紅葉は美しいとの予報が出ています。例年に比べ台風が少なかったこともあり、葉への影響が少ないと考えられるのだそうです。また、比婆山の紅葉の見ごろは例年通りの10月下旬と予測されています。 比婆山（御陵とも呼ばれます）のある比婆山連峰は広島県の最北東部に位置し、９つの峰が連なり国定公園にもなっています。県民の森公園センターがある登山口はすでに海抜８００ｍあります。 公園センターから出雲峠を通るコースを歩きます。まず烏帽子山（1,225m）へ登り、御陵のある比婆山まで行きます。公園センターから約2時間半です。ぶな林の中にある御陵は古事記にでてくる伊邪那美命（いざなみのみこと）が祀られていると言われているところです。 この時期の比婆山の天気は変わりやすく、また時には震えるほど冷え込むことがあります。雨具とセーターなどの防寒着は必須です。雨天の場合、行事は中止します。

マイカーで行きます。中国自動車道の七塚サービスエリアでトイレ休憩（９時２０分ごろ）の予定です。庄原インターで下りて、国道１８３号線を西城町方向に約２５ｋｍ走ると左手に県民の森の案内標識があります。広島中心部から庄原まで約１時間半、庄原から県民の森公園センターまでおおよそ１時間です。
一般道でも約２時間で庄原まで行けます。国道５４号線を三次まで行き、高架の中国道を通り過ぎたところにある船所交差点を右折し、三次IC方向に入ります。途中で右折して、備北広域農道に入り、国道１８４号線、馬洗川を横切ってすぐ左折して、県道４３１号線に入り、和知で国道１８３号線に合流します。１０ｋｍ走れば庄原です。地図でご確認下さい。

---比婆山（御陵）(14:00)---県民の森公園センター(15:30) 2009/09/28 Wanted: Helpers for making soba at the Peace Love Festival A veteran soba man, who is a Gansu hiker, is planning to make soba (buckwheat noodles) at the Peace Love Festival with his British apprentice. They are looking for several helpers, especially non-Japanese people. The festival will be held on Sunday, October 25th, 2009 at Hiroshima City Chuo Park. A variety of shows, including stage performances of music and dance and games, are planned. Dozens of booths and tents selling crafts and foods from various countries will be set up.

or Hirosan Hiroyama at hirosanfromhiroshima@hotmail.com 2009/08/16 Ohzuchiyama Hike The 800-meter Ohzuchiyama is located in Mukaihara Town, Aki-Takata City which is about 50 kilometers northeast from central Hiroshima. We will meet at Mukaihara Noson Koryukan “Yasuragi” (Mukaihara local products shop) that is along prefectural road 37.  From there we will go north for 100 meters and turn right at an intersection (upper right corner is Hiroshima bank) onto prefectural road 29. You will find a signboard on the left that reads “大土山憩いの森” which means Ohzuchiyama Relaxation Forest, after running two kilometers from the intersection. We will enter a 5-kilometer narrow paved road to the mountain side to a lake named “Ronzan Tsutsumi”. We will park our cars in a camping site parking lot that is situated 300 meters north of the lake. An area around the lake is well maintained as a relaxation forest. The 2.6-hectare lake was built 295 years ago by Kiku Buuemon, then village chief, to greatly expand a small pond to make a three-kilometer irrigation channel. It saved the local farmers from a longtime water shortage. First we will take a 20-minute ascent to the best viewing spot, Takamagahara. This place is said to be a sacred area where gods landed down from heaven. Then we will make an hour climb to the mountaintop on which a radio relay station tower stands. Below the summit there is a 4-meter-high block of piled stones called Kuguriiwa (passable stones). You can pass through a narrow gap in it. One stone, named Nariiwa (sounding stone), is caught in the gap. It is believed that you will be happy if you can move it to make a sound.

We will go by car. Take prefectural road 37 to Mukaihara. It will take an hour drive from downtown Hiroshima. For those who do not have a car, take a train for Miyoshi on the Geibi line at Hiroshima Station at 7:53. We can pick you up at Mukaihara Station at 9:05. A one way ticket between the stations will cost 820 yen.

Ohzuchi (11:30-12:30)---Ohzuchiyama Ikoi-no-mori (14:00)===Hiroshima (15:30) 大土山ハイク 標高８００ｍの大土山は安芸高田市の向原町にあり、広島市中心部か北東に約５０ｋｍ、車で約1時間のところにあります。向原支所入口交差点から県道２９号線を東（豊栄方向）に２ｋｍ進むと、「大土山憩いの森」の案内標識があります。この案内に従って北へ続く道に入り、細いアスファルト道を５ｋｍ進む、論山堤（ろんざんつつみ）という大きな池があります。論山堤から３００ｍ北に行きキャンプ場の駐車場に車を止めます。この周辺が大土山憩いの森となっています。 論山堤は、今から２９５年余前の江戸時代、当時の庄屋「喜久武右衛門」が、当時あった池を何十倍にも拡張して築き、また、堤から約３ｋｍの新しい灌漑用水路を完成させ、長年水不足で困っていたこの地域の農民を救ったといわれています。 大土山にはキャンプ場の南端にある登山口から登ります。２０分登ると「高天原」があります。眺望が一番いいところです。ここは日本神話に出てくる天孫降臨の地とも言われています。ここから約1時間で無線中継塔が立つ大土山頂上に到着します。頂上から５分下ると「潜り岩」があり、中にある鳴岩をごろごろと動かし鳴らすと幸せを招くとも言われています。

マイカーで行きますが、車のない方は列車でも行けます。広島駅7時53分発芸備線三次行きに乗車すると向原駅に 9時05分に到着します。向原駅前から登山口まで車に相乗りできます。広島から向原までの乗車券は片道が820円です。

Please bring as much camping equipment (a tent, a sleeping bag, etc.) as you can, but if you do not have equipment or a car, no problem! We will try to find equipment and transportation for you.

浜田でのテント泊キャンプを再度ご案内いたします。
前回は雨で中止となりましたが、めげずに今度こそ水族館「アクアス」に隣接する海沿いのキャンプ場で、楽しい週末を過ごしましょう。
集合は現地、12日の11時～12時が目安で、広島を9時ごろに出発すれば着ける時間です。解散は13日の12時ごろです。
交通手段はこちらで調整いたします。テントや寝袋などキャンプ用品もある程度こちらで確保しますが、できるだけご自分でご用意ください。
